It’s been two months?

It looks like the procrastination bug has caught up with me again. Despite not updating the blog, I have actually made some progress over the past two months.

During Lent, I decided to give up refined sugar products. It was a little hard for me since I had convinced myself I needed something sweet each day. My baking didn't help that either. Nevertheless, it was not as hard as I thought it would be. I learned that I can drink diet coke and eat sugar free products or go without it all together. Since completing the goal, I am trying to continue keep my refined sugar intake extremely low. Hopefully, my glucose level on my next physical will reflect a decrease. There is a history of diabetes in my family and I don't want to go down that road as well.

As a result of my sugar intake reduction, I've seen some additional pounds drop off. So far I am at 11 out of 30. I hope to lose one pound a week. To aid in my weight loss, I began going to the gym again. This is my second week of working out. It really helps that two of my co-workers have committed to going with me.

Plans are in the work to attend Essence Festival this July with four of my girlfriends from college. This should be a great time since we all haven't been together in ages.

Lastly, though not on my official list my husband took me out for some weapons training. Yep I learned how to fire a gun. Can't say that I look forward to doing this again but I'll know what to do in case I ever need to.

Only a couple of the shots actually belong to me. Husband is a better marksman than me. :-)

Food for Thought

At 4:30 this morning I was inadvertently roused from my sleep by my hubby. Needless to say, after only getting a little over 5 hours of sleep I was a tad bit perturbed. Since my alarm clock goes off at 6 a.m. I decided to head downstairs and lay on the couch until it was time to get ready for work.

While watching the morning news, I learned that a van pool from my company was involved in a fatal accident the previous evening. Three of my co-workers were killed and six were injured. Of course it made everything else minuscule. My being upset with my husband about waking early was gone. I was happy that he made it home from work.

Please remember to let your loved ones know how much you care about them.

Take care!

Shoes Shoes Shoes!

It is no secret among my family and friends that I love shoes. I mean I L-O-V-E shoes. So much so, that for my birthday this year my supervisor gave me a history of shoes book.

While catching up on one of my favorite blogs, Deals for the Short and Curvy I found about an online shoe liquidation sale. To my horror I read the post two days later but still before the last day of the sale. ( I knew I should have taken my laptop on vacation with me). Luckily, I was able to do a size search and came up with two pair that I absolutely adore.

Photobucket
I wore these today and received so many compliments.

Photobucket
I hate that I did not buy these in black as well. Oh well another shoe buying lesson learned.

Thanks again Bianca!

Who wants a clean house?

Two years ago this month, L and I moved into our house. In an empty house you can feel as you will have more than enough storage space. That is, until you merge two households into one. What initially looked liked plentiful storage quickly turned to "where am I going to put this?" I love having everything organized and truly believe that every item I own should have a designated place to go....everything has a home. So the task of trying to stay organized began. For several months it worked out well.

Sometime last year after the wedding our guest bedroom and office became a beacon of clutter. If there were items left in the common area and I wanted to tidy up before guests came I would toss everything that did not belong downstairs into a bag and place it in one of the rooms. Following this method of cleaning the rooms quickly got out of control.

A few weeks ago I was looking at the photo albums I brought from my mother's house with the intention of organizing and placing in new albums. It dawned on me that I brought these albums to my house one year ago and they still have not been done. During this year, I kept telling myself that I would get to them after I re-organized the office. Wow...these rooms have been chaotic for one year. This is so not like me. I'm the person that loves to have things organized.

After a few shopping trips for the right supplies (shredder, file folders and storage containers) I was ready to start. For the next two days I purged bags of paper, sorted clothes to either sell or donate and threw out things that were no longer needed. All and all it was a tiresome task but was worth it. Niecy Nash and The Clean House crew will never ring my doorbell.
