Alright Now!

Tonight I completed Wilton's Fondant and Gum Paste course. Honestly, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I think I will prefer this medium of cake decorating over the traditional butter cream. Fondant just has such a polished look. Since I am still having a hard time getting a smooth texture appearance with butter cream frosting this will be a keeper. So without further ado.... (drum roll please).....my final cake....

Thumbs Up!

As a part of my desire to try out new restaurants, my co-worker Jakia suggested that we go to Thumbs Up Diner for our team lunch. It is a small local chain with about four resturants around Metro Atlanta. Since I love breakfast food I was game.

The food was delish and the staff was very nice. I will definitely be going back.

Who wants a clean house?

Two years ago this month, L and I moved into our house. In an empty house you can feel as you will have more than enough storage space. That is, until you merge two households into one. What initially looked liked plentiful storage quickly turned to "where am I going to put this?" I love having everything organized and truly believe that every item I own should have a designated place to go....everything has a home. So the task of trying to stay organized began. For several months it worked out well.

Sometime last year after the wedding our guest bedroom and office became a beacon of clutter. If there were items left in the common area and I wanted to tidy up before guests came I would toss everything that did not belong downstairs into a bag and place it in one of the rooms. Following this method of cleaning the rooms quickly got out of control.

A few weeks ago I was looking at the photo albums I brought from my mother's house with the intention of organizing and placing in new albums. It dawned on me that I brought these albums to my house one year ago and they still have not been done. During this year, I kept telling myself that I would get to them after I re-organized the office. Wow...these rooms have been chaotic for one year. This is so not like me. I'm the person that loves to have things organized.

After a few shopping trips for the right supplies (shredder, file folders and storage containers) I was ready to start. For the next two days I purged bags of paper, sorted clothes to either sell or donate and threw out things that were no longer needed. All and all it was a tiresome task but was worth it. Niecy Nash and The Clean House crew will never ring my doorbell.

I am going to love fondant!

Tonight, I covered my first cake with fondant. After the experience, I can understand why these cakes can cost a grip. They are completely labor intensive but the end result can be flawless. I am pleased with my first attempt and can't wait to get better at this technique.

Fondant and Gum Paste

Tonight I started the third course in the Wilton's cake decorating series. For the next four weeks, I'll learn how to decorate cakes using fondant and gum paste. Besides this ultra hyper talkative annoying chick in the class I think I will enjoy it. Pictures to be posted after each project.

Zoo Atlanta

Today, L and I visited Zoo Atlanta. Despite living in Altanta for four years now, this was my first visit to the city's zoo. Overall, it was a nice visit. I got to see some cute animals, learn some things and hang out with my husband. Below are some pictures from our visit .
